Active in the Swedish South Africa Committee in the 1950s and 1960s as well as on the board of the International Defence and Aid Fund (IDAF) in the 1980s. As an author he wrote a number of books on the developments in Southern Africa and is today a member of the Swedish Academy. He also wrote hundreds of articles in several Swedish national papers, mainly in the Daily News (Dagens Nyheter) where he was cultural editor for some years. He also was a member of SIDA’s special committee on human and refugee aid, dealing i.a. with clandestine aid for the liberation fronts and anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa and elsewhere.

There are references to all his articles in three bibliographies covering 1943-2003. He still has some correspondence and other material dealing with Southern Africa.
