History

DanChurchAid (DCA) is a church based relief and development organization founded in 1922. It became involved in Africa with the civil war in Nigeria/Biafra in 1968. Inspired by the Danish section of the World Council of Churches' 'Programme to Combat Racism' ('Kirkernes Raceprogram' - KR) and through personal contacts through church networks, DCA became more and more involved during the 1970s in support of social activities of church organizations and liberation movements in the struggle against colonialism and racism in Southern Africa.

Published
The monthly magazine ‘Nød’ forms a record of DCA focuses, special campaigns, visits etc.
Many central documents that are translated and published in Denmark reflect the DCA involvement, including the Kairos and Ai//Gams Documents and a booklet on Bishop Desmond Tutu published in connection with his Nobel (Peace) Prize award in 1984.

Board Records: Background material, minutes of meetings and other documents that are considered important are bound in 'yearbooks' and kept at the DCA General Secretariat.

Access

The general files and records of DanChurchAid are on a regular basis transferred after some years to the National Archives (‘Rigsarkivet’). Lists of material transferred are kept at the DCA General Secretariat.
