Therese Sjömander Magnusson is the Director of the Nordic Africa Institute. She has a PhD in geography and has vast experience working in academia, development and foreign policy, mainly in Africa and the Middle East. She has worked as a researcher and lecturer at Stockholm university and was head of operations leading the work of a UNESCO category II centre. In addition, she has held the posts of deputy head of policy at the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, (SIDA) and chief operating officer at the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI).
