Political Science Discipline in Africa: Freedom, Relevance, Impact

The aim of the Conference is to map the state and impact of political science in African universities.

 

Organizing partners: The Nordic Africa Institute (NAI), the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), Association of African Universities (AAU)

Open to invited participants only.

The conference will also have a roundtable discussing the harmonization of political science degree programs along the African Union’s Education Strategy for Africa (CESA 16-25) and the African Union 2063 Agenda.

 

What is studied and taught about political systems, administration, international relations and political economy in Africa?

· How does political science work in an interdisciplinary context?

· What are the resources of political science research?

· How are the political science graduates employed?

· How do political scientists feature in public discussion and media as experts?

· How do political scientists contribute to preparatory work on electoral laws, constitutional changes, governance, public policy and international relations?

· How do they cooperate with political parties?

· International connections of political science in Africa, both continentally and globally

· Student and teachers’ mobility within and out of Africa

· Representation and identities in political participation: gender, religion, minorities
