Externally funded researchers at NAI
Researchers with external project funding are welcome to apply for an employment at the Nordic Africa Institute.
As an externally funded researcher you will be part of a creative research environment in which you will have the opportunity to participate in the development of research both within your own research area and in collaboration with researchers in other research fields.
As a researcher at the Nordic Africa Institute, you will have access to the library which offers over 60 000 titles on modern Africa within the social sciences. The library provides access to a wide array of online resources and professional library services. You will be able to participate in debates on Africa through our various communication channels (publications with wide circulation, website, outreach activities and meetings with politicians and policy makers).
All researchers at the Nordic Africa institute have the task to make the research available and that means also to participate in the activities where one's competence is asked for.
If you are interested to place your future research projects at the Institute these are the directives:
- The Institute charges 25 percent in overhead costs, based on total amount used of the approved funding
- Your project must have a link to one of the five thematic areas for research and policy (see 5.2 of the NAI Strategy 2017-2021)
- The percentage of employment in the project must be at least 60% (% of a fulltime; 40 hrs/week) for project leader and 40% for project partner/project staff
Your request should be sent to the Head of Research for scientific and feasibility analysis at least 2 months in advance of the application deadline. The request must include your CV and an outline of the proposal and be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. The full draft proposal including budget and details on employment level and activity frame will have to be submitted to the Head of Administration and Research Support at the latest 1 month before deadline.
