Contested election in Mali

On Sunday Mali will go ahead with a presidential election, despite fears of a chaotic vote. Last year the country’s president was ousted by mutinous soldiers and its north seized by separatist and Islamist rebels.

Mali is rushing to hold the vote under international pressure, especially from France who began a military intervention in January and would like to withdraw its remaining troops.
