The African Union’s (AU) peace and security architecture has significantly developed over the past two decades, but Africa still faces persistent and resurgent armed conflict and war. The Nordic countries – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden – have established a robust partnership with Africa, supporting African countries, the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), the AU, regional economic communities and mechanisms, civil society, and research institutions.

The Nordic countries have pledged a total of USD 4.96 billion in development cooperation funding to Africa's peace and security between 2012 and 2021.

The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) and the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) have produced a report that highlights African-Nordic cooperation in peace and security over the last decade (2012-2021). The report, A Shared Commitment: African-Nordic Peace and Security Cooperation, was launched on 17 October 2023 at the annual meeting of African and Nordic foreign ministers that was hosted by Algeria.

Join some of the contributors to the report in a lively discussion about the progress made in African-Nordic cooperation over the last decade, as we explore various thematic areas such as women, peace, and security; youth, peace, and security; African peace support capacity; African Union partnerships; and peacekeeping and violent extremism.

During the webinar, the authors will provide brief overviews of the bilateral and multilateral approaches taken by the Nordic countries, as well as highlight key lessons for future Africa-Nordic cooperation.

The webinar will be recorded and posted here and in our channels afterwards.
