Domestic Resource Mobilization and Inclusive Development: Challenges Across Africa

Time • 19 Oct 2021 10:00 - 11:00
Place • Zoom

In relation to the publication of a NAI Current Africa Issue on Taxation Opens in new window., the Nordic Africa Institute will host a Virtual Policy Dialogue to discuss the challenges of domestic resource mobilization and inclusive development.

To ease the burdens for citizens hit hard by the economic effects of lockdowns and other measures during the Covid-19 pandemic, many African states have scaled up social protection programs and reduced tax rates. A build-back-better strategy that continues to invest in social protection face several challenges as there is a need to increase tax revenue beyond pre-crisis levels. But opportunities will be different as tax revenue performance varies enormously across countries in Africa. In addition, tax systems across Africa are unfair in several dimensions and there are opportunities to both raise more revenue and make tax and fiscal systems fairer.

Closed workshop, by invitation only. Chatham House rules of anonymity will apply.
