Guidelines for engaging on our social media channels

At the Nordic Africa Institute, we welcome open dialogue and the exchange of knowledge on our social media platforms. We encourage thoughtful, respectful engagement on topics related to Africa, research, and international development.

To maintain a constructive and inclusive environment, we kindly ask you to follow these guidelines when interacting on our channels:

Be respectful and inclusive

We encourage diverse perspectives, but all comments must be expressed in a respectful and considerate manner. Personal attacks, harassment, or discriminatory remarks will not be tolerated.

Stay on topic

Please keep your comments relevant to the content of the post. If you have general questions about our work, feel free to contact us directly.

No hate speech or illegal content

We will remove any content that includes:

  • Hate speech or incitement to violence
  • Threats or harassment of individuals or groups
  • Defamatory or false claims
  • Promotion of illegal activities

Protect privacy

Do not share personal information – your own or others’ – such as phone numbers, addresses, or identification numbers.

No spam or promotional content

Comments with the intention of marketing products, services or political campaigns are not allowed.

Use of language

We primarily communicate in English on our channels to ensure accessibility and transparency across our international audience.

We reserve the right to hide or delete comments that:

  • Violate these guidelines
  • Are offensive, aggressive, or disrespectful
  • Contain misinformation or unverified claims
  • Include repeated or disruptive posts (“spamming”)
  • Are clearly off-topic or derail the conversation
  • Include advertising or self-promotion
  • Infringe on the rights of others or breach data protection regulations

Repeated violations may result in users being blocked from our channels.

Moderation and legal responsibility

Our social media accounts are moderated during office hours (CET). If you have questions about these guidelines or wish to report inappropriate content, you are welcome to contact us via email at nai@nai.uu.se or by direct message on the relevant platform.
