100 times more water is to be found in Africa’s groundwater reservoirs, than on the surface of the continent. These hidden resources could be used to reduce Africa’s dependency on rainfall.

However, the challenge is how to retrieve and use this water. It requires water-mining, which is costly and potentially damaging to the environment.
