Deviation from the norms leads to discrimination
Being declared "different" by those holding the power of definition in a society is often used as a tool for exclusion or for justification of discrimination such as homophobia and xenophobia. An issue of the journal Africa Insight deals with different case studies of such politics of othering and the contested notions of African identities when it comes to gender, sexuality, migration and other forms of perceived "deviation" from defined norms. The journal will be presented by NAI senior advisor Henning Melber. Wednesday 21 January, 15.15 – 17.00 at NAI premises, Villavägen 6 Uppsala. Read complete invitation.
