Self-determination and secession in Africa
A new book edited by NAI researcher Redie Bereketeab covers all the major attempts at self-determination and secession in Africa. It reveals the lack of inherent clarity in international law and conventions dealing with the topic and explores whether and to what extent self-determination and secession lead to peace, stability, development and democracy in conflict-ridden societies.
Among the contributing authors are NAI researcher Francis Matambalya, who explores the case of Zanzibar, and former NAI research director Henning Melber, who looks at Namibia.
