Positive outcome for ANC opponents
Even if the ANC won the South Africa elections the opposition is becoming stronger. At the same time the number of people who choose not to vote is 40 percent.
"Despite the relief over the remarkably smooth elections and the largely uncontroversial procedures, which allow South Africa to score big in terms of international reputation, the social divide and the gross inequalities do not go away", this writes Henning Melber in his last report from the South African elections (pdf opens in new window).
