Importance of return migrants
NAI researcher Lisa Åkesson will give a lecture in Maputo, Mozambique, at the Eduardo Mondlane University on migration and its importance for those who stay behind. Naturally, money sent home from migrants abroad are important for many families, however, the lecture also deals with return migrants’ significance. Can they manage to establish? What are the obstacles?
– At policy level within the European Union great expectations rest upon returnees to be drivers of development. However, development problems are structural and affect return migrants the same as others, says Lisa Åkesson.
In Maputo she will also meet organisations of relevance for her new research project on reversed migration, with focus on Portuguese migration to Angola and other former colonies because of the economic recession in Portugal.
