New light on Africa
Seminar with Minister of Finance and NAI Director Iina Soiri
NAI’s Director Iina Soiri was invited to comment the Minister of Finance Anders Borg’s speech about Africa’s economies at a seminar at The Swedish institute of international affairs December 16 in Stockholm. Under the headline “New light on Africa” it was pointed out that seven of the world’s fastest growing economies are in Sub-Saharan Africa and that Sweden’s interest for African markets is growing.

Anders Borg gave an optimistic view of Africa’s economic growth and called for Swedish investments in Africa’s emerging market. Iina Soiri emphasized that Borg’s image is simplified. She pointed out that several African countries still have a long way to go, by referring to a number of weak social and economic indicators below the global average in all 54 African countries except the Seychelles.
– It’s very easy to grow in the beginning, but to mature it takes more than strong economic growth, Iina Soiri stated at the seminar.
