Big Business Security
Private Security companies have over the last two decades grown into a multi-billion dollar enterprise. A NAI workshop in Nairobi will discuss security companies’ connections to local economies and their social responsibility.
– We look at the local security as well as the globalised reality. We will discuss major military actors such as Blackwater and global security companies such as G4S, along with very local stakeholders such as Neighborhood watches - groups and even secret societies, says Mats Utas, researcher at NAI .
According to Mats Utas it is important to discuss these groups together, because they operate in the same areas, have overlapping functions and to some extent also have the same staff.
The workshop on “Private Security Providers in Fragile Situations” is arranged by NAI, Bristol University and World Bank’s Global Center for Conflict, Security and Development.
