Claiming the city
Conference in Uppsala 16-17 April
Half of the world’s population lives in cities, and a growing proportion – today one billion – lives in “slums” and informal settlements. Many of the urban poor engage in collective strategies to secure their housing, earn a living, and defend their interest. Their claims on the city often conflict with the demands of urban groups over access to resources, space and power.
Andrew Byerley and Onyanta Adama from the NAI urban cluster will participate in the conference at Missionskyrkan in Uppsala 16-17 April organized by Uppsala Centre for Sustainable Development in cooperation with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation.
