Professor Kjell Havnevik, with researchers Linda Engström and Jumanne Abdallah, has recently commenced a study that examines the effects of large-scale land investments by foreign investors in Tanzania on smallholders’ livelihoods. Observers state that around 230 million hectares of land in developing countries in the past 10 years have been bought up by or leased to multinational investors.
