Oral arts as alternative conflict mediation
A new issue in NAI's Discussion Paper series has just been published. Folashade Hunsu has critically examined Zangbeto, a society among the Egun people in Badagry, near Lagos. The study shows how Zangbeto, in the context of economic crisis and challenges linked to urban growth, has adapted its roles. It is argued that Zangbeto operates through the combination of traditional symbolic actions and oral art in mediating local conflicts and preserving social harmony and local order.
